Colin Farrell, Sharon Horgan, Ruth Negga among 2025 Emmy nominees
The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards will take place on September 14.
Nominations for the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards have been announced last night, with eight Irish stars on the shortlist.
Among the Irish nominees were a handful of Irish Film & Television Academy (IFTA) winners, including Colin Farrell, Sharon Horgan and Ruth Negga.
Fresh off a SAG Award for Best Actor in a Limited Series for his work in The Penguin, Colin Farrell has been nominated in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie category for the same role.
The Batman spin-off has already won him a Golden Globe, an IFTA and more. He was personally honoured by President Michael D. Higgins back in 2023 after his Oscar nomination for The Banshees of Inisherin.
Also for The Penguin, IFTA winner Ed Bruce scored a nomination in the Outstanding Special Visual Effects In A Single Episode category.
Sharon Horgan has been nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role in Bad Sisters.
"Meryl Streep declared herself a fan, Steven Spielberg as well," Horgan told Hot Press in 2024.
"We’ve had some incredibly impressive people say they love the show. I’m always pinching myself. It’s just great that it’s out there and still being discovered."
Bad Sisters won Horgan multiple IFTA and BAFTA awards. Horgan was also recently announced as executive producer of the upcoming Apple TV+ series I'm Glad My Mom Died.
In the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie category, Ruth Negga scored a nomination for her role in the Apple TV+ mystery series Presumed Innocent.
In 2012, Negga won an IFTA for Best Actress in a Lead Role – Television for Welsh TV movie Shirley and was nominated on six other occasions. She won a series of awards in 2021 and 2022 for her supporting role in Passing. This is her first Primetime Emmy nomination.
Negga recently joined over 300 public figures in signing an open letter demanding UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer "end the UK’s complicity in the horrors in Gaza."
Other Irish nominations include John Conroy (Zero Day) for Outstanding Cinematogrpahy For A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie; Caroline McCall (House of Dragon) for Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes; Michael Harte (Deaf President Now!) for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special; and Séamus Murphy-Mitchell (My Next Guess Needs No Introduction With David Letterman) for Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series of Special.
The awards ceremony will take place on September 14 in Los Angeles and will be available to stream on Paramount+.
