Funeral arrangements for Brenda Fricker announced
The Dublin-born actress made history when she became the first Irish actress to win an Academy Award in 1990, taking home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Christy Brown's mother in My Left Foot.
Funeral arrangements for Brenda Fricker have been announced by her family.
The Academy Award-winning actress died at the age of 81 on July 16 following an illness.
The funeral service will take place in St Catherine's Church on Meath Street, Dublin, on Thursday at 11 am. It will be followed by a private burial.
"It is with much sadness that I share the news that beloved actress Brenda Fricker passed away last night peacefully after a period of ill health," read a statement by her agent Phil Belfield last month.
"Dublin born and bred, Brenda Fricker undoubtedly deserves the noun legend."
Fricker was best known for her roles in My Left Foot and Home Alone 2: Lost In New York and died "peacefully, in the wonderful care of the staff in Our Lady's Hospice, Harold's Cross," her family said.
Former President Michael D. Higgins was among those who paid tribute to Fricker.
"Brenda Fricker was the first Irish woman to win an Oscar, but what she'll most be remembered for is the wide range and versatility of the roles she took, and above all, her reputation among fellow actors for kindness, generosity and support," he said.
Earlier this year, Dublin City Council announced that she would be awarded the Freedom of Dublin in recognition of her exceptional contribution to Irish arts and culture.
