Irish Game Of Thrones star Jack Gleeson to feature in new Poirot series

Irish actor Jack Gleeson has joined the cast of a new BBC show Hercule. The six-part series will be based on the beloved Agatha Christie detective, Hercule Poirot.

The star best known for Game of Thrones and House of Guinness will join a cast that includes actress Tamsin Greig from Riot Women, Feet star James Nesbitt and Juice actor Mawaan Rizwan, with Edward Bluemel set to play the Belgian detective.

Also involved in the new adaption are A Good Girl's Guide To Murder actor Henry Ashton, Oppenheimer's James D'Arcy, Supacell's Calvin Demba, Smoggie Queens' Phil Dunning, The Buccaneers' Guy Remmers, and Maggie actress Rebecca Rittenhouse.

Filming is expected to begin soon, with the shoot taking place in Liverpool.

Hercule will be written by Obsession's Benji Walters. Johnny Campbell will direct the first two episodes, with Chanya Button and Alrick Riley directing the second two episodes and the final episodes respectively.

Charlie Palmer is the series producer, most known for recently producing Extraordinary, the British show that boasts a host of Irish talent including Máiréad Tyers, Siobhán McSweeney and Ardal O'Hanlon.

The series will centre on three of Christie's early stories, introducing Poirot to future friends and allies, as well as one nemesis. It aims to show how the detective rose to prominence.

Poirot is Christie's longest-running character, appearing in 33 novels, which have sold more than 750 million copies since they were first published in 1920.

He is noted for his distinctive mustache and top hat and solving cases through his reliance on logic, termed 'little grey cells'.

Poirot has previously been portrayed by Albert Finney, David Suchet, Kenneth Branagh and John Moffatt.

The series is set to air on BBC and BritBox in 2027, produced by Mammoth Screen, part of ITV Studios, and Agatha Christie Ltd.
