Sharon Horgan's YOUTH renewed for a second season
The show ranks among the top five HBO comedy launches globally.
HBO has renewed Sharon Horgan's comedy series YOUTH for a second season.
"I'm so happy to get another opportunity to live out my emotional and biological crises on HBO," said the Meath star. "I can't think of a better platform to air my UTI problems on.
"The response to YOUTH has been beyond what I could have hoped for. I'm so grateful for the response and the chance to work with this incredible cast and creative team once more."
The first season was released on September 20 and concluded on November 1. It follows "a 50-year-old divorcee's search for sex and love whilst juggling caring for her ailing parents and parenting her should-be grown up son," according to an official logline.
The cast featured Horgan as Alex, Rupert Friend as Patrick, Sharlene Whyte as Sam, Aran Murphy as Ruairí and Robbie Gee as Frank.
Harriet Walter, previously on Succession, also joined the cast, along with Anne Reid and Freddie Fox.
"In a way that only she can, Sharon has created a show that makes us howl with laughter and with tears - often in the same moment," said Amy Gravitt, executive vice president of HBO Programming. "Each performance in YOUTH is more delightful than the next."
The show ranks among the top five HBO comedy launches globally. It is produced by Merman (Amandaland, Bad Sisters), while Horgan, Faye Dorn, Jim Kleverweis and Dawn Shadforth executive produced.
In a recent interview with Hot Press, Horgan discussed depicting middle-age in storytelling. "It actually is," she responded when asked if the topic was under-explored. "I’m only realising that now, just from talking to everyone today. I’m like, ‘Oh, maybe it hasn’t been out there.’ Or certainly, not explored in this way, where it’s the sandwich generation."
