Lucy Dacus covers Fontaines D.C.'s 'Roy's Tune' at Iveagh Gardens gig

Kicking off the 2025 edition of the Live at the Iveagh Gardens gig series in Dublin last night, Lucy Dacus treated fans to a special rendition of Fontaines D.C.'s 2019 track 'Roy's Tune'.
The American singer-songwriter – who is also a member of the supergroup boygenius, alongside Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker – has previously shared her love for the band in interviews, but this was her first known performance of the song.
Back in 2019, Fontaines D.C.'s Conor Curley stated that 'Roy's Tune' is "sung to Ireland – from a mindset of frustration, depression, and a loss of innocence."
It was partly inspired by the Irish government's initial refusal to accept around €13 billion in back taxes from Apple.
"They care more about a giant corporation than the people of our country, and all we can do is sit there and take it," Conor said at the time of the release.
The "kill you stone dead" lyric, meanwhile, was a phrase the guitarist overheard when walking by The George in Dublin, as "a guy was getting kicked out by the bouncers."
Last night's gig also included a special guest appearance from SOAK, who joined Lucy for 'Bullseye' – a duet originally recorded with Hozier.
Yesterday, to coincide with the gig, Other Voices released the full video of Lucy Dacus's live session at The National Gallery of Ireland with Hozier.
