Dervish announce new cover album
Their cover of Ye Vagabonds' 'Blue is the Eye' featuring Sarah Jarosz is out now.
Dervish have announced a new album of covers, titled The Great Irish Songbook Vol. 2: Poets & Storytellers. It follows 2019's The Great Irish Songbook as their second installment of Irish covers.
The album will release on Friday, May 29, via Down the Road Records/Exceleration Music.
While Dervish's 2019 Songbook played with traditional Irish melodies, their Vol. 2 will deal with more contemporary songs. Notable songwriters include Sinéad O'Connor, Van Morrison, Lisa O'Neill, The Pogues, and John Spillane.
Each track features a guest from the folk or country music scene.
Collaborators include Iron & Wine, Indigo Girls, Aoife O'Donovan, and more. Glen Hansard joins Dervish for a cover of his own song, 'Leave a Light On'. And Sarah Jarosz is featured on a cover of Ye Vagabond's 'Blue is the Eye', which is available to stream now.
Last month, Dervish landed a television deal with American television broadcaster PBS. Their hour-long special, titled 'The Great Irish Songbook', will be broadcast on various PBS stations throughout the next two years.
