"Fitz is from a small town in east Cork called Killeagh," Kingfishr said. "It's about the pride of belonging somewhere and references the local area heavily."
Kingfishr continue to hold the top spot on the Official Irish Singles Chart for the second week in a row with 'Killeagh'.
The track sat at number 2 for several weeks, competing with major international acts for the position. 'Killeagh' currently sits ahead of Chappell Roan's 'Pink Pony Club' (Number 2), Ravyn Lenae's 'Love Me Not' (Number 3), Sombr's 'Undressed' (Number 4), Alex Warren's 'Undressed' (Number 5) and Billie Eilish's 'Birds Of A Feather' (Number 6).
It's the first time since Hozier's 'Too Sweet' last year that an Irish artist has topped the chart.
Released at the end of 2024, 'Killeagh' has been streamed nearly 8 million times on Spotify and is certified platinum four times over. Claire Kinsella, one half of Lemoncello, contributed cello to the song.
Kingfishr are Eddie Keogh, Eoin 'Fitz' Fitzgibbon and Eoghan 'McGoo' McGrath. The band have just wrapped up a sold-out North American tour and are now gearing up for a European run later this month.
They will be back in Ireland over the summer for festival appearances, such as Live at the Marquee in Cork, with headline gigs in Dublin's 3Arena on December 18 and 19.

"Fitz is from a small town in east Cork called Killeagh, after which the song is named," Kingfishr said. "He played hurling for his club for close to 20 years before turning his hand to music due to injury."
"We wrote the song in support of his club," they continued. "Specifically an East County final that they just won."
