Saipan grosses over €500k in first week
The film is no. 1 in Ireland
Saipan has snagged the top new release spot in Ireland, grossing €523k in its first week.
The film has garnered a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and will play in over 80 Irish cinemas in its second week of release.
"Saipan is the film everyone is talking about," says Patrick O’Neill, founder and managing director of Wildcard Distribution. "Everyone in Wildcard is thrilled it has been embraced so warmly by audiences throughout Ireland, feedback has been incredible. It is one of the best performing Irish films in recent years at the Irish Box Office, with sold out screenings throughout the country."
Based on an original script by Paul Fraser (Heartlands, A Room for Romeo Brass), Saipan follows Éanna Hardwicke as Roy Keane and Steve Coogan as Mick McCarthy during their fallout in the lead-up to the 2002 World Cup.
Jamie Beamish (Derry Girls), Harriet Cains (Bridgerton), and Alice Lowe (Sightseers) also star.
The film is directed by Lisa Barros D’Sa and Glenn Leyburn (Good Vibrations, Ordinary Love). John Keville and Macdara Kelleher (Wild Atlantic Pictures) produced the film alongside Oliver Butler and Trevor Birney (Fine Point Films).
