PREMIERE: Felispeaks releases spine-tingling video for 'Tough Meat'
Supporting the release of Felispeaks new single 'Tough Meat', comes an incredibly artistic music video, which Hot Press are ecstatic to premiere.
Poet, performer, playwright, Dublin-based spoken word artist Felicia Olusanya, more popularly known as Felispeaks, has today released her latest single, 'Tough Meat'. Alongside the track, Hot Press are delighted to be premiering the 'Tough Meat' music video.
The track takes Felispeaks performance to a new level, incorporating more musicality and heavy spoken word. An eery presence lingers over the track with synth and underlying bass adding to this.
While the track over all comes off as high-energy and angry, this theme is elevated hugely by the slow creep in of beautifully crunchy electric guitar, powerful drum beats and the gradual increase of power in Felispeaks' vocal.
There's no doubting Olusanya studied English as part of her postgraduate degree in Maynooth, as the lyricism throughout the track is incredibly powerful, expertly getting across her point, even before the full band kicks in.
The music video only adds to the spine-tingling enjoyment of this track, starring Felispeaks and directed by the insanely talented Bobby Zithelo. The red tones throughout add to this anger felt in the track, automatically making viewers brains associate the colour with danger or a warning.
Felispeaks is well-known for her performances with Irish Women in Harmony, opening for Tolü Makay, releasing music with 1000 Beasts, and her appearances at various festivals, including her involvement in Live at the Local, Naas. This new track and accompanying music video mark a change for the spoken-word artist, with hopefully more of these incredible solo releases coming our way.
