Rosie O'Donnell discusses Ireland move as guest host of Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Earlier this summer Jimmy Kimmel announced a series of guest hosts to take over for him while he took a break.
Rosie O'Donnell has discussed her move to Ireland in the first of a week-long stint filling in as guest host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night, marking her return to the late-night format for the first time in nearly 30 years.
"You know, I've been living in Ireland for the past two years because of 'Mango Mussolini'," she said during her opening monologue.
"I read that Project 2025 and said, 'Got to get myself out of here, you know'. And I decided to go to Ireland, a place where people are driven to drink regardless of who's running their country."
Donald Trump and O'Donnell's contentious relationship began long before he ran for President in 2016, and she has remained one of his most vocal critics in recent years.
"I decided to move, and I took my little, then 11-year-old kid with me. And I just said, 'Whatever you do, don't tell anyone because we don't want a lot of press and a lot of paparazzi,' she continued.
"And then they went to school and proceeded to tell their entire class, 'I'm very sorry. I won't be able to graduate sixth grade with you. I'm being forced to move to another country because the President of the United States hates my mother. But in all fairness, I believe my mother hates him more."
O'Donnell has been vocal about her move to Ireland, first announcing on TikTok that she was residing in Howth, Dublin.
During a recent guest appearance on the Good Hang podcast with Amy Poehler, she expressed that it has been both "very beautiful" and sometimes lonely.
During the conversation, O'Donnell recalled her visits to Donegal - where her father was from - after her mother died in 1973 at the height of The Troubles.
"My cousins were in their very late teens, and so they got us into trouble. They would shoot cap guns and try to provoke the British Army," she said.
She's set to continue hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live! all this week, with guests including Jean Smart, Richard Gadd, Charlie Day, Janelle James, Megan Mullally, Nick Offerman and Shawn Hatosy.
Kimmel will return to his show on September 8.
