Nicola Coughlan joins the cast of Charlie vs The Chocolate Factory animated feature
The film will hit theatres on November 5, 2027, with a Netflix release date of December 22.
Netflix has revealed that Nicola Coughlan has joined the voice cast for their upcoming animated feature, Charlie vs The Chocolate Factory.
According to the official log line, the film picks up after the infamous golden ticket contest, with candyman Willy Wonka jailed for his crime of turning a child into a blueberry. After his release, he returns to the factory to bring sweetness to the world once more.
Facing eviction, Charlie Paley and friends plan a heist to steal a priceless Wonka bar in order to save their homes. "Like the children who came before them, however, they soon discover that the fantastical world inside the factory may be more than they can chew...," reads the official description.
The film will feature original songs, new characters and a few familiar faces.
The Galway actress, most notable for her roles in the Irish series Derry Girls and Netflix's Bridgerton, was announced as one of many in a star studded cast.
This includes Charithra Chandra of Bridgerton, Samson Kayo of F1: The Movie, Christoper Chung of Slow Horses, Kate Winslet of Titanic and Helena Bonham Carter, who played Mrs. Bucket in the 2005 Tim Burton adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Previously announced was Kit Connor of Heartstopper playing Charlie Paley, and Taika Waititi of Jojo Rabbit playing Willy Wonka.
The film will be directed by Jared Stern, most notable for The LEGO Batman Movie, and Elaine Bogan, most notable for Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia.
“Having been raised on the delightfully twisted world of Willy Wonka, it’s a privilege to bring his continued adventures to life as twisted adults," the two told Netflix.
