Gary Lineker docuseries announced for 2027
The four-part series will document Lineker's 50-year career as a footballer-turned-broadcaster.
Prime Video have announced a four-part docuseries about English sports broadcaster and former professional footballer Gary Lineker.
The series will explore his 50-year career, beginning with his childhood in Leicester to emerging as a Golden Boot winner at the World Cup in 1986, before becoming a renowned sport broadcaster and podcaster.
Lineker (working title) will premiere globally in 2027, with filming underway.
Previously unseen footage from the footballer's past will be featured in the docuseries, along with interviews from family members, friends, footballers and critics.
It will be produced by Orchard Studios and executively produced by Nat Lippiett and Dan Grabiner.
"Everyone has their own Gary Lineker," Lippiett said. “The World Cup hero, the Match of the Day presenter, the activist or even the face of crisps – for decades he has been at the centre of the national conversation.”
"This series goes beyond the headlines to reveal the many sides of one of Britain’s most recognisable and divisive figures, with candid insight from Gary himself and those closest to both his triumphs and controversies," Grabiner added.
The series will also examine his departure from the BBC, where he presented the flagship football programme Match of the Day from 1999 until 2025.
Following a temporary suspension, Lineker faced an early departure from his presenting role, after he reposted an Instagram story about zionism in 2025.
"I very much regret these references," he wrote on Instagram. "I would never knowingly share anything antisemitic. It goes against everything I believe in.”
The footballer has been involved in the British podcast The Rest Is Football, hosted by himself, Alan Shearer and Micah Richards since 2023. During the 2026 FIFA World Cup, it was adapted into a New York studio based television programme on Netflix.
Lineker is the only player to have been the top goalscorer in England in three separate clubs - Leicester City, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur. He is fourth in England's all-time record goalscoring list and won the Golden Boot for England at the World Cup in 1986. He was signed by Barcelona for £2.8 million, where he played from 1986 to 1989. He also never received a yellow or red card during his career.
