Tributes paid to Pat Maguire, long-time road manager for Horslips, who has died
"Pat was one of the great enthusiasts of Irish rock, doing his thing brilliantly as road manager with Horslips, for many years and in different phases – but also spreading his wings and being an integral part of the scene when he wasn’t on the road with the band," Niall Stokes reflects.
Horslips have paid tribute to their long-time road manager Pat Maguire this morning, following the sad news of his death.
Pat passed away yesterday, October 21, surrounded by family, at St Francis Hospice in Raheny. He is survived by his children Ross and Joe.
"We’re so saddened at Pat Maguire’s passing," Horslips wrote in a post on social media. "He was a dear friend for many years and a thorough gentleman who would always go the extra mile to help someone out. He mentored many, many people starting out in the music business and generously passed on not only his own expertise but his values of decency and fairness. And of course he was a mad divil too, God bless him. He’ll be very fondly remembered. Thanks for everything, Pat."

Pat will also be remembered for his work as part of the annual Vibe For Philo shows, celebrating the legacy of Philip Lynott.
"It is very sad to hear the news this morning that Pat Maguire has joined the throng of the faithful departed,” editor of Hot Press Niall Stokes said. “Pat was one of the great enthusiasts of Irish rock, doing his thing brilliantly as road manager with Horslips, for many years and in different phases – but also spreading his wings and being an integral part of the scene when he wasn’t on the road with the band.
"Pat was always a pleasure to deal with. He was a real pro who knew his stuff and was an exceptionally reliable problem-solver. But he also functioned brilliantly on adrenalin. He was from a generation of rockers who put in extended hours all the time, as a matter of course, and never gave it a second thought. Irish music would not be where it is without them – so a big thank you is in order. Mile buíochas duit – agus slán leat, a chara."
Drummer Myles Lally has also paid tribute to his friend and colleague Pat online:
