Hot Press Classics is back with its newest episode, focusing on The Velvet Underground's immortal 1967 debut, The Velvet Underground & Nico.
In the episode, Paul Nolan talks about first discovering The Velvet Underground through a car commercial for Dunlop tyres directed by Tony Kaye, the enticing track 'Venus In Furs', and his early love for the LP.
He also discusses the exquisite songwriting and melodies from Lou Reed, the sheer originality of their lyrical approach, and its ground breaking use of dark subject matters.
Elsewhere, he also insists on their unique exploitation of the rock format and their pioneering role in the creation of noise rock, their collaboration with Nico and Andy Warhol.
To round out the episode, Nolan brings back a number of interviews, starting with Matt Sweeney, where they discuss the Velvet Underground tribute album I'll Be Your Mirror, and his love of the band.
A special interview is up next with The Velvet Undergroud's very own John Cale from 2012, where they chat about his extraordinary work with the band and the continued success they've continued to have over the years.
