Paul Nolan is lost in a forest, as he's joined by ex-Cure drummer Lol Tolhurst to discuss a trio of the band's early classics, 1980's Seventeen Seconds, 1981's Faith and Pornography from 1982.
Ahead of The Cure's return to Dublin at the end of the month, Hot Press Classics returns with a very special new instalment discussing a trio of the band's early classics, 1980's Seventeen Seconds, 1981's Faith and Pornography from 1982.
Joined by ex-Cure drummer Lol Tolhurst, Paul Nolan explores the early days of The Cure, Tolhurst's work as a lyricist in their older material, as well as the delelopment of goth music.
They also discuss the role of bands like The Doors within the movement, Joy Division and their collaborations with The Cure, as well as the varied literary influences on the band including Albert Camus.
Elsewhere, they examine The Cure's musical influences like Scott Walker, Tolhurst's later collaborations and The Cure's induction into the Rock'N'Roll Hall of Fame, an induction which came from Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor.
They also chat about Tolhurst's 2023 book Goth: A History, the development of goth music and the Irish element surrounding the release.
Find out about this and more in the new episode of Hot Press Classics, out now.
