The Strokes and Yeah Yeah Yeahs episode of Hot Press Classics out now - feat. Lizzy Goodman
As he hops between NYC clubs and dive bars with a louche swagger, Paul Nolan breaks down a pair of noughties indie classics, The Strokes’ Is This It from 2001 and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Fever To Tell from 2003. Plus an interview with Meet Me In The Bathroom author Lizzy Goodman.
Hot Press Classics is back with a brand new episode, centred around The Strokes’ Is This It from 2001 and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Fever To Tell from 2003.
In the new instalment, Paul Nolan examines The Strokes' classic period with their debut album, their unique brand of rock at the time of its release, and the role of the UK music press in kick starting this musical movement.
He also explores their use of downtown New York grit, their unique and instantly recognisable visual aesthetic, and the sonic brilliance of Is This It.
Nolan also goes into their difficulty to follow up with equally acclaimed output, their switch in sound and the subsequent musical movements they inspired.
In the episode, Nolan also discusses the fertile grounds that saw the birth of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the brilliance of Karen O as a front woman, and the art-rock flavours of their sound.
He also chats about Fever To Tell, the extraordinary catchiness of their melodies, and the consistancy of their output.
To wrap up the episode, Nolan brings back an interview with Meet Me In The Bathroom author Lizzy Goodman from 2017, where they discuss her background with The Strokes, her love for Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the influence of Karen O.
Find out about this and more in the new episode of Hot Press Classics, out now.
This episode was produced by Paul Nolan and edited by Flo Laurent.
