Guns N' Roses episode of Hot Press Classics out now - feat. Slash and Duff McKagan
Amid scandalised headlines, media controversy and wild excess, Paul Nolan breaks down Guns N’ Roses’ immortal 1987 debut Appetite For Destruction, and recounts his experiences seeing the band live in Dublin and Hong Kong. Plus interviews with Slash and Duff McKagan.
Hot Press Classics is back today with its newest instalment, focusing on Guns N’ Roses’ immortal 1987 debut Appetite For Destruction.
Coming ahead of Guns N' Roses' show this summer in 3Arena, the episode breaks down the mythology surrounding the record by recounting Paul Nolan's experiences seeing the band live in Dublin and Hong Kong.
In the new episode, Nolan examines the complex history surrounding the band and its lineup, with tensions between Axl Rose and other members, and the way these issues were historically reflected in their live shows.
He also insists on Rose's magnetic aura and the unmatched talent of the band, and the mayhem surrounding Guns N' Roses, going hand in hand with genius songwriting.
Elsewhere, Nolan explores the genius of the band's imagery, how quickly they became a fully realised proposition, and the incredible success and cultural phenomenon of their debut album Appetite For Destruction.
He also looks at the band's explosive chemistry in their early days and all the way into their current career, their implosion across 1996 and 1997, and their reunion in 2016 for the Not in This Lifetime... tour.
To wrap up the episode, Nolan brings back interviews with Slash where they discuss Guns N' Roses' outlaw attitude; and Duff McKagan from June 2024 where they explore his Irish roots and the brilliant imagery of the band.
Find out about this and more in the episode of Hot Press Classics, out now.
This episode was produced by Paul Nolan and edited by Flo Laurent.
