Yet another music festival, you say? Well, the new Indie-Pendence fest not only has some great acts lined up, but will have free admission to all events as part of the long-standing Mitchelstown Music & Arts Festival.
The independently run music festival will be held in the New Square, Mitchelstown, Co. Cork on August 5 and 6.
Saturday night's line-up includes legendary Scottish band The Proclaimers supported by acclaimed Irish singer-songwriter Roesy and folk rocksters Iron Jelloid.
Scottish heroes The Proclaimers headline the New Square stage on Saturday August 5, with the ever-charming Roesy and folk rocksters Iron Jelloid providing back up.
Sunday August 6 sees the ultimate Corkonian musical fantasy played out: The Sultans of Ping headline the 2pm stage while The Frank and Walters lead the 8pm offering.
Also on the Sultans bill are indietronic funksters Hybrasil plus punk princesses Fair Verona, Cork indie rockers Eve Of Mind and local boys The Vital Spark.
The Franks share their bill with The Chalets, fresh from European shenanigans with Kaiser Chiefs plus NSMA winners Lotus Lullaby. Importantly, for those whose pockets are mere post festival lint collectors, admission to Indie-pendence is free.
"We aren't trying to compete with the big boys, we're just a bunch of Cork lads, who love music and firmly believe there is an appetite for a Munster rock festival," says organiser Shane Dunne.
