The Matthews Play Whelan’s Gig For Homeless
The Peter McVerry Trust will benefit from the show, which takes place next Thursday...
The Matthews have announced a special show, the proceeds of which will go to supporting the homeless. The gig will take place In Whelan’s and the funds raised will go to The Peter McVerry Trust, Ireland’s leading agency, supporting homeless people.
"Broken relationships are the third most common cause of Homelessness around the World,” a spokesperson for The Matthews told Hot Press. "In 'Colourblind' we try to express the emotional devastation of broken relationships, and the resulting consequences, that too often end in homelessness.”
The video for the track is a beautiful piece, which tracks the experiences of a young girl who has been plunged into a downward spiral as a result of a broken relationship.
"With this gig we want to support the Peter McVerry Trust, who do extraordinary work supporting the homeless,” The Matthews added. "In society we all depend on each other. We are all vulnerable. Please support this gig for PMV and let’s support each other."
There are 2,000 people under the age of 25 homeless in Ireland right now. The overall figure for homelessness is expected to reach 6,500 by Christmas 2015.
It is an emergency, and vital funds are needed. This gig is an opportunity to see one of Ireland’s finest young bands in action – and to support a great charity. What’s not to like?
