The Strokes push back new album release date
Reality Awaits will be released a month later on July 24
The Strokes have delayed the release of their seventh studio album, Reality Awaits. The record will now arrive on July 24, a month later than its originally scheduled June 26 release date.
No reason for the postponement has been announced.
At the same time, the band revealed plans for a homecoming show at New York City's Meadows Corona Park in October. The concert will mark their first performance in New York since 2023, with Beach House, TV on the Radio and Fcukers set as openers.
The Strokes also announced an extensive tour across North America, the U.K., Europe, South America and Japan earlier this year. The run includes a sold-out show at Dublin's 3Arena on October 28.
Following their appearance at Coachella, the band is also scheduled to perform at major festivals including Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, Outside Lands and Sea.Hear.Now Festival.
Reality Awaits has already been previewed by two singles, ‘Going Shopping’ and ‘Falling Out of Love’. The album will be the band's first since 2020's The New Abnormal, which earned The Strokes their first Grammy Award for Best Rock Album.
The new record also reunites the band with producer Rick Rubin.
The two singles released so far show influences from frontman Julian Casablancas' side project, The Voidz, the experimental rock group with whom he has released three studio albums. Outside of The Strokes, guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. released a solo album in 2023, while bassist Nikolai Fraiture put out an EP with his band Summer Moon the same year. Guitarist Nick Valensi's band CRX followed with a new album in 2024.
