PREMIERE: Vale shares atmospheric new video for 'Warning Sign'
The new video from Vale comes ahead of the release of his debut EP Aftertouch, which will be available tomorrow, April 29th.
Tipperary electro-pop artist Vale has shared an atmospheric new video for 'Warning Sign,' ahead of the release of his debut EP Aftertouch tomorrow, April 29th.
A live performance, the video is set in blue-hued lights under the vaulted roof of an abandoned building. Though simple in concept, the video is the perfect visualisation of the soaring synths and grim lyricism the track projects. Surrounded by stacks of wood and discarded material, the setting illustrates a sense of rural decay — supporting the reaching, ultimately searching vocals.
Blending the sounds of Beach House, Imagine Dragons and Animal Collective, Vale infuses each of his songs with a dynamic emotionality, lyrics spiraling in step with the layers of electronic instrumentals. Staying true to the artist's history of lush production and cinematic soundscapes, 'Warning Sign' is the perfect encapsulation of Vale's sound evolution. Marrying smooth synths with breathy vocals and punchy drum beats, he creates a brooding backdrop for the lyrics — which explore the darker sides of love, friendship and self.
The recording project of Tipperary-native Eoin Halley, Vale has begun to take electro-pop to new heights. Sparse, yet intentional, his sound is uniquely his own. Both instrumentally and lyrically driven, the empty spaces left in his tracks make room for his grim observations — creating a tension between the deeply introspective lyrics and soaring backing track.
The video comes ahead of his debut EP, which will be released tomorrow. Six songs long, the project showcases the artist's range, while staying true to the core sound Vale has developed.
“Some of it is rooted in darkness, more of it is questioning our place here. It can sound in places, cold, careless or maybe even hurtful," said Halley on his EP Aftertouch. "But it’s quietly hopeful, moving along, step by step."
Conceptualised just before worldwide lockdown, the EP was created in collaboration with Nashville-based producer Owen Lewis, Seabear musician Sin Fang and Multi-instrumentalist David O'Connor. Combining unapologetic writing with meticulous production, Aftertouch is the strongest showing from the artist to date.
