In a dreamy, ethereal podcast, Paul Nolan and Kilian Murphy revisit Slowdive's 1993 shoegaze opus, Souvlaki.
Hot Press Classics returns this week for its newest edition, focusing on Slowdive's 1993 shoegaze opus, Souvlaki.
Formed in Reading, England, by Neil Halstead and Rachel Goswell in October 1989, Slowdive are known as one of the leading figures of the UK shoegaze scene of the early 1990s.
Released in 1993, Slowdive's second album Souvlaki received tepid reviews from critics. It has since received retrospective critical acclaim and is hailed as a classic of the shoegaze genre.
In this new podcast episode, Paul Nolan and Killian Murphy explore the initial critical response to Souvlaki and Slowdive in general, their later cult-level success and their place within the shoegaze scene.
Elsewhere, they examine Slowdive's iconic reputation as a live act, their collaboration with ambient pioneer Brian Eno and the ethereal quality of their sound.
