Massive Attack episode of Hot Press Classics out now
Massive Attack are the book Paul Nolan and Kilian Murphy have opened, and now they’ve got to know much more, as they revisit the trip-hop pioneers’ 1991 masterpiece, Blue Lines.
Hot Press Classics is back with its newest instalment, this time focusing on the Massive Attack's legendary 1991 album Blue Lines.
Over the course of the episode, Paul Nolan and Killian Murphy explore the cultural context surrounding Blue Lines, including the impressive musical output of the year 1991, Massive Attack's influence on the musical landscape, and their groundbreaking sound.
The duo also examine the origins of the band, their distinctiveness as a live act, and Massive Attack's live collaboration with Radiohead in Dublin's RDS in 1997.
Additionally, Nolan and Murphy discuss their work with Cocteau Twins vocalist Elizabeth Fraser, the band's radical political engagement over the years, especially towards ecology and Palestine, and their lack of studio output in the past 16 years.
Elsewhere, they also chat about the brilliance Blue Lines, and their number of collaborations with female vocalists over the years, including Sinéad O'Connor.
