This podcast's gone to heaven, as Paul Nolan and Kilian Murphy break down the Pixies' 1989 alternative landmark, Doolittle.
Hot Press Classics returns today with a new episode, focusing on the Pixies' 1989 alternative landmark album Doolittle.
In the new episode, Paul Nolan is joined by Kilian Murphy explore the early days of Pixies and their status as references for the world of alternative music, being quoted as inspiration by the likes of Nirvana, Radiohead, U2 and many more.
They also discuss the innovative quality of the band, their masterful use of quiet/loud dynamics, and their iconic image as an ensemble.
The duo also chats about the pixies' early success in the UK music press, the tension that lead to their original breakup in 1993, and the fervour they created with their reunion in 2004.
Elsewhere, Nolan and Murphy examine their renewed popularity with a new generation, the brilliant production on Doolittle by Gil Norton, and the surreal quality of the record's songwriting.
Finally, they study the iconic interplay between Frank Black and Kim Deal throughout the album, the ferocious yet gorgeously melodic quality of the band, and the incredible talent from the instrumentalists of the Pixies.
