Watch: Fontaines D.C. perform 'Marianne' from last ever BBC Maida Vale session
'Marianne' "never would have seen the light of day if it wasn’t for Trev," said bassist Conor Deegan.
Fontaines D.C. shared footage of their new single 'Marianne' from the last ever BBC Maida Vale session. They also performed 'Roy's Tune' and 'It's Amazing To Be Young', recorded on July 31.
Following teasers and cryptic videos, they shared the lead single along with the announcement of their fifth studio album Dopamine Chamber on August 18. The record, produced by James Ford, will arrive on October 16.
They previously played 'Marianne' and an unreleased track titled 'Six Shot Morning’ at one of their recent Summer shows in Spain, the band's first since the death of their manager and friend Trevor Dietz.
The alternative rock band took to social media to explain how Dietz was to thank for turning 'Marianne' into the lead single, saying it had been "left on the cutting room floor", while the band cycled through over 40 songs for the album.
"'Marianne' is a song that never would have seen the light of day if it wasn’t for Trev," bassist Conor "Deego" Deegan III wrote on Instagram.
"So we brought it back, and now it’s the first single off of our next album Dopamine Chamber," Deegan added.
"An album that suddenly feels more fitting to our lives than we thought it would be when writing it. This album is dedicated to Trev, all he gave us, all he taught us. Love you forever."

'Marianne' was partially inspired by the 2024 thriller series Ripley and cements the band's promise to take on "darker and more synthetic sounds."
The upcoming album follows 2024's Mercury-nominated Romance, which received two nominations at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards.
The band are set to continue their festival appearances, with headline performances at Reading & Leeds and Electric Picnic.
BBC Maida Vale has hosted more than 150 musicians since its inception including David Bowie, Nirvana and Adele among many others.
In 2023, the studios were sold to a group led by composer Hans Zimmer, a new state-of-the-art studio facility in East London will replace it. Fontaines D.C. were the last artists to record at the world-renowned studios, with the final broadcast airing on August 3.
