Slovak Festival Orchestra for Marlay gig
The Slovak Festival Orchestra will be the highlight of a free day of family fun in Marlay Park this summer, cleverly titled Orchestral Manoeuvers in the Park.
Organisers Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council promise family events, classic movies and a spectacular fireworks display on 17 August.
The day’s festivities kick off at 2pm with fun and facepainting. Movies begin at 3pm and the orchestra takes over from 8pm onwards, playing well-known classics including Grieg and Brahms.
Highly-regarded orchestra leader Vladimir Jablokov (pictured) is already a familiar figure in certain circles here, having performed in Aras an Uachtarain, the National Concert Hall and the K-Club. Ratislav Stur will conduct.
The occasion is part of an ongoing series of summer events laid on by the Council. Admission is free, but by ticket only from www.dlrevents.ie.
