Sinéad O'Connor's children to work with record label on upcoming releases
The artist passed in 2023, in the midst of working on her album No Veteran Dies Alone.
The children of Sinéad O'Connor have announced plans to work with record label Chrysalis on upcoming releases to preserve and celebrate the late singer's musical legacy.
"My brothers and I want these pages to be a place to celebrate Sinéad: her music, her life and everything she meant to so many people," her daughter Róisin wrote in a message posted to O'Connor's official Instagram account.
"They are being managed with our full knowledge and consent. Through our family company, Deep Dana, we are actively involved in her legacy - including working with Chrysalis Records on the releases you'll hear more about soon."
The Dublin artist passed away in London in July 2023, aged 56. Her death prompted an outpouring of grief from fans, fellow musicians and public figures, with tributes highlighting her voice, musical achievements, activism and willingness to challenge authority.
"We'd also like to share our own thoughts and memories from time to time," the statement continued. "She was your Sinéad, and she was our mum. We'd like to make room for both. Thank you for continuing to listen, and for the love you have shown her over the years."
O'Connor achieved worldwide fame with her 1990 sophomore album I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got, featuring her cover of Prince's 'Nothing Compares 2 U', which topped charts globally, spending four weeks at No. 1 on the UK Official Singles Chart and the US Billboard Hot 100.
Several studio albums followed, including Universal Mother in 1994, Faith and Courage in 2000, Throw Down Your Arms in 2005 and Theology in 2007. She published her memoir Rememberings in 2021. In 2023, she was laid to rest at Deansgrange Cemetery in Dublin.
The artist passed in the midst of working on her album No Veteran Dies Alone. She had recorded eight tracks for the album, with one song left to complete. It had originally been expected to hit shelves in 2022, but its release was later delayed.
In July, producer David Holmes shared details of O'Connor's unreleased album, with text messages he received from the late singer about the record.
"No Veteran Dies Alone is a stone cold classic," he said. "A love letter to her children and the world. Her songs are as real and pure as you can only imagine."
