WATCH: Malaki portrays his manic alter-ego in new visuals for ‘The Riddler’
Breakout rapper and spoken word artist Malaki unveils a dark, chaotic video inspired by the Charlie Chaplin film 'Limelight'.
Malaki shared the visuals for his latest single ‘The Riddler’ yesterday, June 3rd.
The frenetic song touches on anxiety, self-medication and primal fear accompanied by self-directed visuals of the Stillorgan rapper in a pinstriped suit wearing black and white face paint.
Malaki ‘engages in a daring tightrope walk along the very edge of sanity as he unveils Calvero, his manic alter-ego,’ it said in a press release.
He was inspired to make the song after watching the Charlie Chaplin film, Limelight during lockdown. “This track is a personification of my emotions in my darkest times. Instead of making me weaker and breaking me as a person, it only made me stronger. I think there is a bit of “The Riddler” in all of us,” he said.
This is his first release since his debut album Chyrsalis which was exclusively available on vinyl. It comes after a hectic 2020 for the rapper who dropped a host of singles last year including, ‘Someone Like You 2,’ ‘Glory Daze,’ ‘You Told Me,’ ‘Cavalier,’ ‘Baby Bubblegum,’ and ‘Fair Play.’
Malaki’s stock continues to rise as he garners praise from fans and critics with regular airplay on stations such as RTE 2FM, Red FM, and BBC Introducing.
