RTÉ announce new Head of 2fm

RTÉ have announced that John McMahon is to succeed John Clarke as the Head of 2fm later this year.
“John McMahon is a true radiohead who migrated to RTÉ Television but is now coming home to Radio,” says RTÉ Radio M.D. Claire Diugnan. “As RTÉ 2fm faces into a challenging 2010, I am confident that John has both the skills and the vision to steer Ireland’s second most-listened-to radio station in a confident new direction.”
McMahon’s first task will be to oversee the re-positioning of 2fm’s target audience from 15-34 to 25-44.
“After years behind the producer’s desk it’s great to now be getting behind a desk of a different sort at RTÉ 2fm,” he enthuses. “I look forward to returning to my natural home in radio and tackling the challenges ahead. RTÉ 2fm is Ireland’s most-listened-to music station. I look forward to working with the hugely talented 2fm team to build on this unquestionably solid foundation to re-shape the station for a new generation.”
The holder of a Post-graduate in Broadcast Journalism, the 38-year-old cut his teeth at Anna Livia and FM104 before joining RTÉ in 1994 as a member of their Aertel team. Since then, he’s worked as a series producer on the likes of Today with Pat Kenny, 5 7 Live, The Sunday Show, The Full Irish and The Vinyl Curtain, the Radio 1 music quiz which featured Hot Press’ Stuart Clark as one of its team captains. In 2004 McMahon became Editor of Current Affairs and Daily Talk Shows on RTÉ Radio 1, and in 2006 was made Deputy Head of RTÉ TV Schedule Planning where he's remained since. He’s also an ardent Liverpool supporter but, hey, you can’t have everything!
