Paul Casey has returned with a powerful new single, 'How Come?', alongside an accompanying music – premiering below.
The Derry singer-songwriter felt compelled to write and record the track after watching news of the tragic school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, last week.
“It’s a poem, a stream of consciousness, I’m just asking 'how is this possible?'" Casey says from his home studio. “The world is definitely a different place, I feel like there’s no middle ground anymore. As a father it’s a constant worry."
‘How Come?’ is a notable shift in direction for the musician – who's typically known for his lavish, blues guitar riff-driven songs. The new offering, which is a more stripped-back composition, features spoken-word delivery inspired by the later work of Leonard Cohen.
As an avid film fan, a strong cinematic soundscape has always been a prominent feature of Casey's work . ‘How Come?’ brings to mind both Bruce Springsteen's ‘Streets of Philadelphia’ and the '80s-inspired, synth-centred soundtrack of Stranger Things.
Ahead of the single's official release on Friday, June 3, get an exclusive look at the video for 'How Come?', directed by Paul Casey, below:
