CHERYM to disband following "last ever" tour next month
CHERYM will play a final run of UK dates in March
In a statement shared to social media this afternoon, Derry band CHERYM have announced that they're calling it a day – with members Hannah Richardson and Alannagh Doherty ready to "go on some other rogue adventures for a bit..."
Previously tipped as one of Hot Press's 'Hot For 2020' Irish Acts, the pop-punk band released their acclaimed debut album, Take It Or Leave It, via UK indie label Alcopop! Records back in February 2024. More recently, they teamed up with Glasgow's Uninvited for The After Party, a AA single release featuring the tracks 'Sofa Bed' and 'Liar! (despise you)'.
In December, CHERYM announced that their bassist Emer McLaughlin – who'd been a member since just after the release of their debut album – was "taking a step back" from the band. Founding member Nyree Porter had previously departed CHERYM back in early 2024.
In today's statement, Hannah and Alannagh have revealed that their tour with Uninvited will be their last, and their "appearance at Friend Fest in Brighton will be the last everrrr CHERYM show".
"I cannot think of anything more special than seeing a sea of all your wee gorgeous faces that we've met over the years, screaming along to the tunes!!!" their post reads. "We have never ever taken any of this for granted and we feel so grateful that this happened and it is truly an honour and a privilege to have this band be such a huge part of our lives for so long."
CHERYM go on to state:
"I wish I had like a big mad story to tell yous but the truth is we're all just on our own paths right now in life which is a really good thing in so many ways but we feel that right now, we're not able to dedicate to the project in the way we have previously. We both think that for now it's best to hit pause with all CHERYM tings and go on some other rogue adventures for a bit and just see where we end up for the craic lol"
As part of their final tour, with co-headliners Uninvited, CHERYM will play Stereo, Glasgow (March 1); Off The Square, Manchester (March 3); and Hyde Park Book Club, Leeds (March 4). CHERYM will also play Friend Fest in Brighton on March 7.
