Picnic Newsflash: Details of the Eco Cup announced
Electric Picnic have introduced a new system to prevent plastic pint cups littering its festival site.
This weekend, the organisers will be launching the Eco-Cup, which can be used 100 times before being recycled.
If you're buying a half-litre drunk, you'll pay a €3 deposit on top of the drink cost for your first drink. Beyond that, you can exchange your old cup for a new one at no extra cost. When you're done, you can keep your cup or get your deposit back.
Because Stradbally Hall is a working farm for most of the year, Electric Picnic are making extra efforts to organise an eco-friendly festival - so this year they've added recycling facilities to the festival site instead of just doing it off-site. You can bring your waste to the Recycle.net 24-hour recycling facility, which takes plastic, bottles and cans. They'll also have a Cardboard Compressor, and staff will be distributing waste bags to festie-goers.
In other news, organisers stress that there will be no access to the festival site until after 9 am on Friday August 31st. A Garda exclusion zone will be in place and early comers will be 'quite simply turned back'.
The main route is the M7, and, while the Gardai say there will be few tailbacks, you're best off getting to Stradbally so as to arrive as early as possible after 9.00am.
Finally, Bus Éireann have announced that there will be no buses back from Stradbally on Saturday evening. The earliest buses leave immediately after the festival on Sunday night.
