Oxegen breaks all carbon neutral records
This year's Oxegen festival was the greenest yet, and is now officially Ireland’s largest 100% CarbonNeutral event.
Having scooped the prestigious Yourope 'Green N Clean Award' in 2008, organizers were keen to raise the bar and continue Oxegen's green reputation this year, even hiring Environmental Consultant Dylan Townsend, who brought a host of exciting eco-friendly ideas to Punchestown.
One such idea was Ecogen, an area of fun green activities, discussion and live music over the weekend.
Oxegen's eco-friendliness went down a treat with Minister for Communications, Energy & Natural Resources, Eamon Ryan, who visited the festival on Saturday and was delighted with the innovative site. He said, "I took a tour of the site and the infrastructure is very impressive – the camping up at The Green Campsite is very colourful and it’s good to see eco-friendly camping options available. The Ecogen area is a fantastic addition to the festival; it’s great to get people engaged with the key environmental issues."
Oxegen also continued its association with The Carbon Neutral Company by implementing ways to reduce and offset its CO2 emissions. Public transport, recycling of waste, and the Oxegen Eco Cup all served to make the festival a hugely green success! Here's to 2010!
