Minutemen documentary to screen at TBMC
This month, Dublin's Temple Bar Music Centre will host a special screening of 'We Jam Econo – The Story Of The Minutemen'
Punk rock historians should make a beeline for the Temple Bar Music Centre on May 22 as We Jam Econo – The Story Of The Minutemen gets a special u:mack screening.
Along with the seminal ‘80s outfit that provides the – if you will – rockumentary with its title, there’s superb archive footage of Jello Biafra, Greg Ginn, Richard Hell, Henry Rollins, Flea, J Mascis and Thurston Moore.
Explaining their strict DIY ethos, ex-Minuteman Mike Watt says: “People have certain kinds of expectations of what a band should be like. I’ve had guys get weirded out because I load my own stuff or because we didn’t fly to gigs. It don’t matter what kind of expectations people might have, just do what it takes to get it done. If it’s econo, that’s fine. As a matter of fact, twenty-five years later, I do things the same way. I’d rather take risks with the music than the lifestyle. Jamming econo makes sense.”
Doors open at 7.30pm with tickets on sale now priced €9.
