MCD step up plans for new arena
MCD’s plans for a 17,500-seater venue in Dublin have stepped up a gear with their National Arena Consortium issuing a ‘Call For Expressions Of Interest’ in the national press.
Referring interested parties to real estate company CBRE or consulting group KPMG, it states that, “The National Arena will require more than 40 acres in the Greater Dublin area.
“The arena,” the Consortium continues, “will flexibly host live entertainment and sporting events, making the area around the arena a vibrant destination.
“The proposed range of ancillary facilities in the complex will be of an event village type with leisure elements including a cinema, shops, restaurants, cafés and bars, an attractive pedestrian plaza and over 1,200 new homes. It is intended that the development will also incorporate a large 3 or 4 star hotel to complement uses within the centre.”
Other critical factors are listed as “being readily accessible by public transport including Luas and/or commuter rail lines” and “close proximity to the airport.”
The deadline for submissions is Monday November 20.
