Kim Deal announces new album Live at the Barbican

Former Pixies bassist and The Breeders frontwoman Kim Deal has announced a new album, Live at the Barbican, out November 13.

The record is a documentation of her performance at London's historic Barbican Centre in March of last year, where she played special orchestrated renditions of songs from her debut solo album Nobody Loves You More, followed by tracks from The Breeders' back catalogue and earlier solo work.

Live at the Barbican finds Deal backed by a 25-piece ensemble, marking the first time in a decades-long career that she has played with an orchestra. The idea for the performance came to Deal while she was mixing her solo album.

"I invited myself!," she recalled. "That's how I came to play Nobody Loves You More at the Barbican. Years ago, I had worked with Chris Sharp at the 4AD label and I knew he was currently at The Barbican.

"So, I reached out to dear Chris and said I have orchestration on this record. I would love to be able to perform these songs with an actual orchestra. And Chris said yes, we'd love to have you."

The record is accompanied by a live performance film under the same name, directed by Cuan Roche. It is also set for release on November 13.

Live at the Barbican will arrive almost two years after Nobody Loves You More - rounding out its celebrations.

Nobody Loves You More was refined over several years - with its oldest songs 'Are You Mine?' and 'Wish I Was' being written and originally recorded in 2011, shortly after Deal came off the Pixies' Lost Cities Tour and relocated to Los Angeles.

Along the way, Deal enlisted a variety of collaborators such as Breeders' Mando Lopez, twin sister Kelley Deal, Jim Macpherson and Britt Walford, alongside Teenage Fanclub's Raymond McGinley, Raconteurs' Jack Lawrence and more.

The artist is known for being the original bassist and co-vocalist of Pixies. She played with the band until 2013, leaving due to creative tensions with frontman Black Francis.

Prior to that, she founded The Breeders in 1988 - who are still active now.
