Joe Donnell premieres new production at folk festival
Folk artist Joe O'Donnell will premiere the performance of Gaodhal's Vision at the Warwick Folk Festival on July 20.
The production tells the mythical story of the departure of the Milesians from ancient Egypt and their eventual arrival in Ireland, via Europe and North Africa.
Originally a legendary CD from 1977, this updated version is to be realised as a multimedia music and dance production. The show will comprise of a 6-piece electric band supported by the 30+ piece Celtic Vision Orchestra, while the former original cast member of Riverdance, Sinead Lightley, together with Indian dancer Amardeep Nanra and the Indigo Dance Company, will devise and perform an original dance component.
Framing the performance will be a screen onto which a digital movie will be projected.
The story of the album will be in part back-projected but will also be narrated by Joe himself in the style of an Irish seannaichi.
Tickets for the folk festival, taking place at Warwick Boys School, Myton Road, Warwick, UK, are £10 (£5 concessions), and are available from 01926 614932.
