The Harry Potter author left 'shocked and devastated' by news of acting giant's passing
JK Rowling has paid tribute to the late Alan Rickman, who died today aged 69.
In a career full of memorable roles, it was Rickman's portrayal of Professor Snape in the Harry Potter franchise that was perhaps the most striking; a landmark part which found him a whole new army of fans.
The author of that series took to Twitter this afternoon to express her shock and sadness.
There are no words to express how shocked and devastated I am to hear of Alan Rickman's death. He was a magnificent actor & a wonderful man.

My thoughts are with Rima and the rest of Alan's family. We have all lost a great talent. They have lost part of their hearts.
