Ivan Yates to takeover Newstalk Drivetime show
Not everybody is happy about the current occupiers of the slot being replaced...
Having been their chief filler-inner for the past year, Ivan Yates is to resume regular Newstalk duties in September as presenter of the station’s Monday-Friday Drivetime show.
“Ivan Yates is one of Ireland’s foremost commentators and has a long history with the station,” enthuses Newstalk Managing Editor, Patricia Monahan. “His brand of straight talking, opinion led commentary will provide an engaging forum for listeners. This is an exciting time for the business as we continue to develop a brand of opinion led content.”
Unless the former Fine Gael TD fancies some serious double-jobbing, it probably rules him out of the running to take-over Vincent Brown’s late night TV3 slot.
There have been some dissenting voices with NUI Galway PhD student, Ciara Murphy taking to social media to observe: “The loss of Sarah means no women on primetime. We should be making the point that women listen to the radio, so there should be some of us on the bloody thing.”
The current occupiers of the slot, Chris Donoghue and Sarah McInerney, are in discussions with management about alternative roles within the Communicorp group.
