Cardi B is cleared of assault charges in Los Angeles
"So don't you ever think that you're going to sue me, and I'm just going to settle," said Cardi B.
Cardi B has been cleared of assault charges by a Los Angeles jury, after being sued by a security guard for $24 million (about €20.6 million).
Emani Ellis said that the American rapper cut her cheek with a fingernail and spat on her outside of a obstetrician's office in 2018.
The Grammy-winner told the court that Ellis followed and filmed her and that the security guard was looking for a payout. Cardi B was pregnant at the time, however, did not yet want the news to be public.
After deliberating for about an hour, the jury cleared the artist of all allegations, including assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence and false imprisonment.
The rapper's case gained popularity on social media, as she frequently changed wigs, outfits and the length of her fingernails throughout the trial.
"I work all day and I work hard for my money, for my kids, for the people that I take care of," said Cardi B after the ruling. "So don't you ever think that you're going to sue me, and I'm just going to settle."
Additionally, she urged fans to leave Ellis and her family alone.
The case centres around an obstetrics appointment that the artist went to while she was four months pregnant with her first child. The office had closed for the day to respect her privacy.
The rapper told the court that Ellis told someone on the phone about her appointment and recorded her. After Cardi B told the security guard to "back-up", the two began exchanging insults.
Doctor Tierra Malcolm, who tried to break up the fight, testified that Ellis was the aggressor of the situation, and that she swung her arms at Cardi B.
