Iron Maiden and the Osbournes clash
We have some advice for all you hardcore metal fans heading to see Iron Maiden, Marilyn Manson and Turbonegro at the RDS arena on Aug 31.
Be gentle and supportive, as Iron Maiden were given a rough time at the recent Ozzfest extravaganza in Los Angeles.
Pelted with eggs and harassed by stage-invaders waving the stars and stripes (Maiden prefer the Union Jack), the lads didn’t enjoy the event at all. To add to their ire, it appears that all the chaos was fuelled by their feud with Ozzy and Sharon, and that Osbourne devotees were responsible for the attempted sabotage of their performance.
At one point during the show, Maiden’s frustrated frontman Bruce Dickinson poked fun at his Black Sabbath counterpart by commenting, "You'll never hear Maiden on U.S. radio, MTV and certainly never see them in a reality show." But after they finished the set, Sharon Osbourne retorted by telling the audience that “Iron Maiden are a wonderful band but Bruce Dickinson is a prick.”
Scornful stuff indeed.
Despite the interruptions, Iron Maiden still managed to play an explosive set by all accounts, so all you headbangers can expect them to do the same thing here at the end of the month.
