Honeyboys' raunchy vocalist a hit in stage musical
Lead vocalist Aileen Mythen is back on stage with the musical The Lords of Love in Wexford, after a highly-acclaimed run earlier this year.
The previous shows were staged in the Jerome Hynes Theatre at Wexford Opera House, but such is the impact of the hilarious musical that it returns to same venue, but this time in the much larger O’Reilly Theatre on November 19 and 20. Mythen plays the role of the femme fatale who comes between the popular singing duo played by Tony Carty and George Lawlor.
The Lords of Love was written by Eoin Colfer, the internationally successful Irish novelist, with Liam Bates and Cyril Murphy, and has a music score that hints at Spinal Tap and encompasses Swing to Pop and Funk.
The story sees Buddy Roxborough and Jack Raymond reunite as the Lords of Love for one last shot at fame; a greatest hits concert with special guest Ivy Tudor, the woman who split them up all those years ago. What starts out as a straightforward revue soon descends into a drink fuelled evening of accidental hilarity, recriminations and, great music.
