Galway student station extends schedule
Championing alternative music in the west of Ireland, Galway's student station Flirt FM 101.3 has extended its new schedule, broadcasting up to 100 hours a week from next Monday.
From next Monday (October 13), Galway's Flirt FM 101.3 will broadcast from 8am-4am on weekdays, bringing the schedule up from 60 hours to 100 hours a week.
Flirt FM is a the volunteer student radio station which hopes to offer a truly alternative choice to listeners in the west, with specialist programmes each night playing punk, metal, leftfield, electronica, house, techno, hip-hop and world music, as well as rock and indie music.
Considering that this is a station which runs "on less money annually than Pat Kenny spends on hair gel (probably)", a huge amount of volunteers are needed to keep the station ticking over, with 55 new recruits trained in and ready to add to the eclectic programming.
The stations's playlist offers a taster of what's on offer, including a fair dose of Irish artists like Grand Pocket Orchestra, Fight Like Apes, Messiah J & the Expert and Adebisi Shank.
The station will be on air for seven weeks up to Christmas and 12 weeks afterward.
