Elvis Costello and Cait O'Riordan split

After several months of have they/haven't they? speculation, Elvis Costello and ex-Pogues singer Cait O'Riordan confirmed today that their marriage is over.

Reads a joint statement: "It is regretfully announced that the marriage of Elvis Costello and Cait O'Riordan has come to an end after 16 years. The parting, which took place in September, is amicable and it is hoped that the privacy of the individuals will be respected."

They met in 1985 when Costello was drafted in to produce The Pogues' classic Rum, Sodomy & The Lash album, and married the following year.
