Dolores O'Riordan to appear in court today in Ennis
The Cranberries star is charged with assault arising from a 2014 incident at Shannon Airport
Dolores O’Riordan has arrived at Ennis District Court where she’s facing charges arising from an incident that took place on an Aer Lingus flight from New York to Shannon on November 10, 2014.
The 44-year-old Cranberries singer is accused of assaulting Garda Shane Dawson and two members of the airport police after she’d disembarked the flight, and of resisting or wilfully obstructing Garda Dawson as he went about his duties.
Dolores, who’s been diagnosed as suffering from bipolar disorder, has been undergoing medical treatment whilst also trying to kickstart her new band - the somewhat unfortunately named Jetlag NYC - whose ranks include former Smiths bassist Andy Rourke.
"Apparently my mother came into the cell,” she told the Sunday Independent of her arrest. “I don’t remember. I had created a tortoise effect. I tucked myself in, under the blanket. I was singing in the cell. I was praying. I was meditating because I was freezing."
O'Riordan claimed she was not drunk on the flight but that she was dealing with "demons" since legally separating from her husband Don Burton.
