DJ who died at Co. Cork festival named locally as Mark 'Beanzy' O'Brien

A 38-year-old man who has died at the Love is a Stranger festival in Cork has been named as DJ Mark 'Beanzy' O'Brien.

He was found unresponsive in his tent at the mini festival in Ballyvolane House on Sunday morning.

He was known as a prominent DJ and lover of music who lived in Cork city centre. Cork DJ and radio presenter Stevie Grainger spoke to The Echo, saying he was a "well-known and popular DJ in Cork. He was known around the scene, and will be sadly missed by the community."

Carlow-based electronic music DJ, Eddie 'TR One' said "While I struggle to keep the tears in — waiting for the numbness to slowly subside — I’m aiming to remember the good times, the kindness you showed me, and the light you brought into my life.

"You were always there for me and me for you.

"A best friend with a brotherly bond — one we forged through music and one that I will continue for you. Let’s still obsess over our favourite records in this life and the next."

Another Love Story's Love is a Stranger music festival featured Alex Gough, Fixity, Jean Pack, Lil Skag, Sorcha Richardson, Smithereens and more.

Out of respect, the festival cancelled Sunday's closing concert.

"As a small team, we are absolutely devasted to learn of the death of a festival attendee at Love is a Stranger today. Our thoughts are with the individual’s family, friends, and loved ones at this extremely difficult time," they said in a statement.

"We are assisting An Garda Síochána and the emergency services in every way possible, and will not comment further while their inquiries are ongoing. Out of respect for those affected, today’s closing concert has been cancelled.

"We would like to thank the emergency services, our crew, volunteers and attendees and hosts for their support and understanding.

An Garda Síochána have not released further details.
