Man dies at Love is a Stranger festival in Cork

A man has died at the Love is a Stranger festival at Ballyvolane House in Cork this weekend.

The man, who was in his 30s, was found unresponsive in his tent on Sunday morning. Emergency services conducted CPR but he was subsequently pronounced dead.

“As a small team, we are absolutely devastated to learn of the death of a festival attendee at Love is a Stranger today,” said a statement released by festival organisers following the man’s passing. “Our thoughts are with the individual’s family, friends and loved ones at this extremely difficult time.”

The statement noted that they were assisting An Garda Síochána and emergency services. Organisers cancelled the closing concert "out of respect for those affected" and thanked emergency services, crew, volunteers and attendees for their support.

A spokesperson for the gardaí said a post-mortem examination was to be carried out.

The Love is a Stranger event is part of a series of mini-festivals organized by Another Love Story. It featured contemporary Irish artists as well as international guests and a selection of artisan food and drink vendors.

This is the second year the event was hosted at Ballyvolane House. Due to have ran from Friday, July 17 to Sunday, July 19, the event saw performances from the likes of Alex Gough, Fixity, Lil Skag and more.
