DJ Dec Pierce releases Block Rockin' Beats EP Reimagined (Vol. 1)
"Music has always been my escape and my therapy, and this EP is part of that journey," Dec Pierce said about the new EP.
Today FM broadcaster and DJ Dec Pierce has released an EP titled Reimagined (Vol. 1) from his live music project, Block Rockin' Beats.
It includes contemporary reworks of 'Café Del Mar' (1993) by Energy 52, 'Kernkraft 400' (1999) by Zombie Nation and 'Meet her at the Love Parade' (1997) by Here Comes Da Hool.
"These are three records that have been part of my DNA for years," Pierce said. "With Reimagined (Vol. 1), I didn’t want to simply remix them, I wanted to rebuild them from the ground up and make them feel like Block Rockin' Beats records.
"The goal was to take the emotion and nostalgia people already have for these songs and inject them with the energy, weight, and chaos of our live show...It’s been a huge year personally and professionally. I’ve spent a lot of time rebuilding, finding my feet again, and pushing myself outside my comfort zone. Music has always been my escape and my therapy, and this EP is part of that journey."
The Today FM broadcaster reflected on the EP coming out during the same year that he celebrates 30 years in broadcasting. "Thirty years ago I was playing records on pirate radio with no audience and no budget. Creating this EP felt like the natural next step, taking everything those thirty years taught me and putting it into something new."

DJ and producer Ross Walsh (Welshy) from Kilkenny has joined Pierce in producing the EP.
"I can be a bit of a perfectionist, so I spent a lot of time studying the originals, from the sound selection to the feeling and energy of each track," Welshy said about the EP.
"Our versions were never about replacing them. They were about paying tribute to the amazing producers who came before us. I’d call this project a success if even one new raver hears the Block Rockin' Beats version, falls in love with it, and then goes back to discover the original artist."
Welshy spoke about working with Pierce on the project. "It was inspiring to see Dec come back stronger and hungrier than ever. He’s been to hell and back, and seeing his journey up close has been genuinely powerful. Being part of a project this personal to him made it even more meaningful."
Pierce shared that he had suffered from a brain hemorrhage in 2023 and in 2025, he was diagnosed with breast cancer.
"This journey has been tough, but I've come back before and I'll come back stronger again. Music is healing, and that will never change. Cancer cannot beat me," he said in an Instagram post in November 2025.
Tickets for Block Rockin' Beats Live at the Breakwater in Wexford on August 14 and Live at the Docklands in Limerick on August 15 are available here.
