The electronic duo reveal how surprised they were by Banks’ attack after a recent radio interview in the new issue of Hot Press.
With their recent Mercury nomination and the success of their debut album Settle, brotherly outfit Disclosure have had their share of positive press in recent months.
They also experienced the downside of media coverage when they were accused by Azealia Banks of being "rude" for talking about a potential collaboration with the controversial rapper.
“I didn’t see that one coming,” Guy Lawrence tells Hot Press. The elder half of the duo was surprised by Banks’ reaction to an interview with a Dutch radio station, during which the electronic outfit mentioned their plans to work with her.
“I thought she was going to be really up for working with us rather than leaking our music," he continues. "I’m just going to let her do her own thing, I’m not interested anymore. You can watch the interview online, it was with a Dutch radio station. We just explained that we’d started making music together and it wasn’t finished. We said that we’d chilled all day and ate sushi together and stuff like this, but yeah, she took it as being really rude. I don’t really know why.

“And then she threatened to leak the music that we made together. You can watch it and if you perceive it as rude, fine! I mean, we apologised to her as well, personally and publicly on Twitter, and then she still wants to leak it. So, fuck it!”
With an upcoming European tour – and the Mercury awards ceremony, of course – Disclosure have plenty to keep them occupied over the next few months.
