The rapper – who plays Marlay Park today – says Russell Brand saved him from an anxiety attack on Kathy Griffin's late night talk show.
On the bill for Macklemore's date with Marlay Park this evening, the last time Danny Brown was in Dublin, he caught up with Hot Press's own Craig Fitzpatrick.
As well as discussing beating his lean addiction – he was recovering from giving up that codeine concoction and in far better form than what some journos experienced earlier that tour – and more in the piece (read it all here), he also told Fitzpatrick about his first ever TV appearance.
Appearing alongside Russell Brand and pal A$AP Rocky on Kathy, a late night US chat show hosted by comedian Kathy Griffin, he seemed to be the upbeat and funny presence we've come to know. Himself and A$AP certainly seemed to take a shine to Griffin. Check it out below.
In fact, the Detroit rapper felt like a fish out of water.
"Being on TV, I was super nervous," Brown said. "And I also drank lean that day too. So I was… y'know. I had to drink it to calm down because I was super nervous about being on live TV. With Kathy Griffin, you don't know what the fuck she's going to do! Y'know what I'm saying? I was thinking this could be bad – or this could be the best thing ever."
With that experience now under his belt, surely Danny's ready for a big network appearance should Letterman or one of the Jimmys come knocking?
"I guess," he shrugged, not entirely convincingly. "You've got no choice but to get used to it after a while. I guess that was a few years ago. Yeah I was nervous that day, but it's cool. Russell Brand held us down, if he wasn't there I don't know what we would have done. The both of us were just like… out-of-body at that point! We didn't really care to be honest. It did help us out. If he [Russell] wasn't out there I feel like I woulda had an anxiety attack. Live TV? That's crazy! Everybody's watching this shit now?! That's crazy."
